Transparent Ledger

We are all acountable for where every cent goes.

Our ledgerdocumenting the details of every monetary transaction, coming and going—is always accessible to all Members.

Bank Accounts

We currently rely on Members' personal bank accounts to pass through DT4T funds.

Because we are not a business or nonprofit organization, it’s not possible for us to set up a bank account for DT4T (see Fiscal Sponsorship below).

Central Fund

Our Central Fund contains all of DT4T's coming and going money.

The Central Fund is made up of Membership Dues, revenue from Events and Gatherings, and donations.

At the end of each quarter, 5% of the Central Fund is set aside for our Safety Fund. The rest of the Central Fund is divided proportionally among all the Stewards, based on the effort (or “Spoons”) they put towards DT4T that quarter.

Safety Fund

We also try to keep some money on hand for unexpected expenses.

Having this fund also allows us the flexibility to loan Hosts money for upfront costs associated with their Events, Gatherings, and Emergency Direct Actions.

Fiscal Sponsorship

We are applying for Fiscal Sponsorship, which will change how we manage money.

Fiscal Sponsorship allows community organizations like ours to become eligible for grants that only fund 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. The fiscal sponsor absorbs the sponsored organization under its own umbrella and acts as a financial and legal intermediary between the sponsored organization and the IRS and grantmakers.

Fiscal Sponsorship would solve all the problems that come up with relying on Members’ personal bank accounts, because they'd hold the money for us instead. Plus, they’d make us eligible to apply for a lot of grant money, changing the game for how DT4T could support its Members!

Currently, we are applying for Fiscal Sponsorship with Disability Power Bloc, a Fiscal Sponsor rooted in Disability Justice. We've asked them a lot of questions to determine whether they're aligned with our Core Values and have the same, transparent approach to finances as we do, and we've been pleased with their answers. We enthusiastically believe that if there's a Fiscal Sponsor for us, it's this one.
